Biography

Todd joined the BYU Marriott School faculty as Professor-of-Practice in 2003 to teach courses in social impact and to found the Melvin J. Ballard Center for Social Impact. He continues to teach social impact courses in both the Business Management and MBA programs. Todd’s teaching and consulting focus is on using evidence-based impact to support highly effective social efforts, programs, and organizations.

Todd is the Ashoka U Changemaker Campus Change Leader at Brigham Young University—one of forty universities in the Ashoka U Changemaker network. He is the director of both the Ballard Center and the Peery Social Entrepreneurship Program which he founded in 2010.

The overarching goal of the Ballard Center and the Peery Program is to help students learn how to solve social problems. In the 2018-2019 academic year over 3,000 students participated in semester long social impact classes, internships, competitions, and research. Another 7,000+ participated in one-time events and clubs throughout the year. Together, these programs are the largest, broadest, and deepest of their kind at any university.

Before coming to BYU, Todd co-founded Unitus (1998), a pioneer in impact investing, which consists of nonprofit and for-profit organizations, together working with over 57 million clients in their move out of poverty.

Todd previously worked in the computer industry for Sequent Computer Systems and Nixdorf Computers.

He and his wife Kristine are the proud parents/grandparents of four children and four granddaughters.
