Biography

I am a non-traditional academic. Following high school I worked in the power industry for six years in coal-fired power plants and in industrial construction. This is where I gained my passion for energy and electric power. I realized that I would like to participate at a much higher level and I returned to school with the intention of achieving an advanced degree in Chemical Engineering. Once I received my PhD, I joined reaction Engineering International (REI), a consulting firm specializing in combustion systems, with a primary focus on the utility industry. After seven years with REI I was recruited to be director of the Industrial Combustion and Gasification Research Facility at the University of Utah and as a Research Associate Professor. After three and a half years at the University of Utah I decided to fully commit to academia as I perused a tenure track Professor appointment with teaching responsibilities, which brought me Brigham Young University
